About us
Devon Garden Furniture is part of the Portsmouth Arms Sawmill, near Umberleigh in North Devon.
The sawmill is run by the owner, Ian Page. Ian has been working with timber for over 25 years. In 1987, when he took over the sawmill, the work was mainly sawmilling and producing stakes. Since then, he has taken the company in a new direction, seeing a gap in the market for good quality softwood furniture designed to last.
Devon Garden Furniture now designs and manufactures its own range of softwood garden furniture, sold across the UK, and related products, such as pergolas and planters, together with the domestic and commercial fencing which are sold across North Devon and Somerset.
Construction of the Garden Furniture
The garden furniture is mainly of bolted construction for ease of maintenance. All the bolts and screws are plated for long life.
We use mostly sorted Swedish redwood timber, planed and pressure treated for long life in outdoor conditions. So there's no need to put it away in the winter.
Little maintenance is required but an annual wash off with soapy water.
For more robust furniture for families we also offer heavy duty picnic tables, using home grown, planed douglas fir, again pressure treated for longer life.
Although every care is taken in selection of quality materials, unlike plastic, timber open to the British climate will show signs of some cracks and warping, but with pressure treatment, this will not detract from the life or usefulness of the product.
Umbrellas are available on request.
